Why? So you want to go to college….. Love to learn Prepare for a career Whatever the reason, there is a college perfect for YOU. You just have to find it…. Figure out what I want to do Party in the dorm That takes work This decision will affect the rest of your life. Is that worth taking the time to find the right fit? Get as far away from here as possible

What colleges are looking for Rigorous curriculum/good grades Standard test scores Extra curricular activities– sports, volunteering Expand interests outside of school—internships What every college bound student MUST do Look inward- what do you want Study- subjects and standard tests Look outward- talk to as many people as possible Investigate- the more you know, the better the fit

Learn about yourself Learn about colleges What majors do they have What are their strengths and weaknesses What special programs do they have What is the social life like What do I want to study Where do I want to study Do I want a school that is close Do I want a small, medium or large school What are the advantages and disadvantages of both Do I want an urban, suburban or rural school Am I independent Am I interested in any special programs work study, internships, study abroad Talk to EVERYONE that knows something about college. They know more than you, so use that knowledge. Get yourself a college book like FISKE Guide, Keep it in the bathroom and read about random schools Write in it and make notes about what you like and don’t like About the schools Insiders Guide, books on applying to college

Standardized Tests SAT ACT Reading, writing and math reading, writing, math and science Critical thinking and analysis fact based Reading and writing skills knowledge Subject tests required for some schools no subject tests (already test subjects) SAT test is changing to be more like the ACT All juniors are registered to take the March 5th test. YOU must register for April 9th test by March 4th
