Personal Narrative Rough Draft Getting Started . . .

In order to write your personal narrative, you must pull ideas directly from your completed outline. It may also be useful to have your sensory details chart readily available. Does your outline need to be perfect? Does it need to be complete? Outline

Wait. We actually have to write? Yep! You are going to write your draft on notebook paper. Do not use the back side. Skip every other line. Write legibly. This draft will be used for your teacher conference and your peer reviews. Does your draft have to be perfect? Do you need to have a draft? Wait. We actually have to write?

Your draft does not need to follow your outline exactly Your draft does not need to follow your outline exactly. However, if you are struggling with creativity, fall back on whatever you wrote on your outline. You can change it later. You are writing on paper – not in stone. This piece (in rough draft form) must be at least five complete and detailed paragraphs. Details are what make narratives interesting! Requirements

Questions . . . Frequently Asked Questions: How long does it have to be? As long as you meet the five detailed paragraphs requirement, you’ll be in business. If it turns out to be too long when you type it, you’ll just have to trim it down in revisions. I don’t know where to start! What do I do? Remember: writing is a process. You have to take it step by step. Make sure your sensory details chart is completed. Then, make sure you feel good about your outline. Next, just focus on your introductory paragraph – one sentence at a time. Questions . . .

More Questions . . . When is this due? Any other questions? The draft, with all of its imperfections, will be completed on Monday. Today, and this weekend, you must write everything except the conclusion. Any other questions? More Questions . . .
