GRADE 8 SUMMER ASSIGNMENT! Welcome to 8th grade! I hope you are excited and prepared for the best year yet. This summer you are required to read Tangerine, by Edward Bloor. This novel is about a boy named Paul Fisher, whose family is moving from Texas to Florida for many reasons. Copies of the novel are provided in room 208. You will be completing the assignments that can be accessed on Ms. Fiedler’s website. Next, please select a second book of your choosing and just read! We will have a book discussion in class at the beginning of the school year so please be prepared for that activity. Finally, there will be IXL assignments that will be shared with you in August. You can access the list of skills to complete on Ms. Fiedler’s website. These assignments are meant to refresh your memories of skills you learned previously in order to prepare you for the start of 8th grade. Complete all tasks below Character: Choose three characters from the novel. List two character traits to describe each character. Then, find two pieces of evidence from the novel for EACH character trait. Be sure to include the page number after the direct quotation. Conflict: Write one to two paragraphs explaining what the conflict is and how it was resolved. There are many smaller conflicts throughout, but focus on the major problem and its solution. It is suggested to make a bullet pointed list of the smaller conflicts, as well. As you read, create a list of unknown words.
