POETIC ELEMENTS - NOTES

ALLITERATION Come and clean your closet. EXAMPLES: Come and clean your closet. Shut the shutter before it makes you shudder. Put down your pen and play the piano. Garry gathered the garbage.

ALLITERATION DEFINITION: the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of closely connected words

ALLUSION His nose was growing like Pinocchio’s. EXAMPLES: His nose was growing like Pinocchio’s. He was a real Romeo with the ladies. Chocolate was her Achille’s heel. I thought the software would be useful, but it was a Trojan Horse.

ALLUSION DEFINITION: ALLUSION = an indirect or passing reference to a person, place, or thing of historical, cultural, literary, or political significance
