North East BIM/Digital construction cluster

The cluster approach Effective clusters are well-developed concentrations of related business working together. Research (including studies by Harvard Business School) demonstrates the impact of clusters in terms of: increased productivity and operational efficiency stimulating innovation increasing commercialisation Aim to bring together the best of all worlds – synergies between digital, construction, education sectors to support business growth and innovation

Digital sector UK's digital economy is world leading in terms of proportion of GDP (12%) Tech UK figures North East is birthplace of BIM and has world leading expertise in this area but….its a hidden gem and needs investment to grow

Construction sector Construction sector is back to growth following the recession Represents 6-7% GDP Interesting market dynamics – apprenticeship levy, economic uncertainty due to Brexit Challenges - conservatism, slow adaptors of new technology, labour mobility, skills shortages and availability of labour, fragmented supply chain BIM – government mandate, growth opportunity, adoption challenges, limited market penetration
