Interests People Do you enjoy being part of a team? Do you enjoy helping others? Data Do you enjoy working with figures? Do you enjoy calculating different forumlae? Things Do you enjoy fixing things? Do you enjoy using your hands to make or fix things? Ideas Do you enjoy creating different things either mentally or physically? Do you enjoy drawing or design? The Key word is ENJOY. The best jobs are those that people ENJOY doing

What can I offer? Experience Potential Commitment Good attendance Skills Potential Achievements Commitment Motivation Good attendance

Employers want to know What skills you have eg leadership award, DoE, team and individual sports – what skills did you need to complete the award? What has made you apply to their company? How you think you could contribute to their company? What subjects you are studying What exams you will take? What is your attendance like? What is your attitude like?

When do I get started? Today! This morning you will hear about the types of careers you can have in the construction industry from Woodhead Construction You will hear from Avril Rawson, Learning and Development Co-ordinator at Pendragon, about what the companies are seeking from employees You can listen to Conor tell you about his experience as an apprentice at Pendragon

Why start now? It’s time to start thinking about your future Time to start thinking about the type of career you want to have It’s time to look what GCSE grades you will need to take that first step towards your future career With the right GCSE grades doors will open to you With poor GCSE grades some doors will be closed

Mock Interviews You will be having a mock interview with a member of the local business community in March 2018 In your next PHSE session you will choose a fictitious job to apply for You will draft a letter of application You will then complete an application form This will give you a good start learning how to put together an application

Letter and Application Form Think carefully before completing them Draft the information first Make the most of your strengths and achievements Must be word processed Make sure you check your spelling and grammar Remember sentences begin with a capital letter and you need paragraphs!

Letter and Application Form Prepare a list the things you are good at, the subjects you are studying, your hobbies and interests – these will help you to complete the application form. Remember the letter is crucial It’s decider on whether or not you get invited to interview or Whether it gets filed in the WPB! WPB

What next? In the coming weeks you will hear more about the Mock Interview programme You will be using time in PHSE and your own time to complete the documentation You need to take time and make a real effort to show the employer you have taken the event seriously
