Who is SSM Health Care? SSM Health Care has some 23,000 employees, 5,000 physicians, and 5,000 volunteers. It has facilities in four Midwest states: Missouri, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Illinois. SSM Health Care includes hospitals, nursing homes, rehab, home care, hospice, a physicians organization, clinics, an information center, and other health-related services. We were founded in 1872 by the congregation now known as the Franciscan Sisters of Mary, and the congregations still sponsors our health system. In 2002, SSM Health Care became the first health care organization in the nation to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
