Needs assessment – what we’ve learned What type of data do you generate?
Needs assessment – what we’ve learned How do you store your data?
Needs assessment – what we’ve learned In general, with whom are you willing to share your data? Top things that limit ability to share data: intellectual property, legal, personal preference
Needs assessment – what we’ve learned If you are sharing or planning to share your data, what approach is or will be used?
Needs assessment – what we’ve learned What resources outside of your department do you need to best manage and analyze your data?
Needs assessment – what we’ve learned What concerns do you have? Could use more formal help in establishing and maintaining databases. Data storage capacity for long term storage is inadequate. I am concerned that my data are unorganized and that I may somehow lose them. I pay a student to handle it now, but when they graduate, I may have a problem. Need additional training for data collection, management, and editing. Need more consistent processes so everyone is storing data at the highest level without having to research all of the options.

Some next steps Additional trainings and workshops For librarians/library staff For students/faculty/staff, modeled on our successful fall workshop – “Big data, little data: having it all” Further customization of DMPTool Recommendations on data reference, data instruction, visualization, and repository support
