Topic: Community Service

Community Service – donated time to a non-profit organization. non-profit – a company that is not in business to gain money, but to help others.

Why do community service? Organizations need your help. Feels good. Several hours helps students get into universities and earn scholarships. Grow personally (take on leadership roles if possible). 100 + hours = extra points on a UC application. 200+ hours = lots of extra points on a UC application.

Assignment: Complete ____ hours of community service this semester. 10% of your AVID grade and is your final in the class. Signed hours are due Monday, June 4th. Note – the required AVID hours a semester are not enough to get extra points on your college application. Do more if you can.
