Lesson Title: Storm on the Island Entrance task: On scraps of paper add SINGLE WORDS you would associate with a storm. Challenge: use verbs and onomatopoeia. Now, let’s blutack these to a window to create a concrete poem (concrete poem = a poem that is shaped like its topic.) Preparing for Learning At the beginning of any lesson teachers should: Welcome students at the door Engage students with an entrance activity and register using the BQM format Establish a positive learning atmosphere and environment

Learning objective: Select quotations to support explanations

Starter- what does a storm sound like? Option one: Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjbpwlqp5Qw – first 90 seconds. Option two: 1- have students rub their hands together 2 – have students start clicking fingers, not in time 3 – have students start tapping the table 4 – have students start drumming the table and stamping feet.

Reading - comprehension Choose quotations to support these ideas. Challenge: Can you identify any language techniques being used here? Fast finishers can add drawings to help illustrate the poem.
