National Origin

DASA and National Origin *The Dignity Act also amended Section 801-a of New York State Education Law regarding instruction in civility, citizenship, and character education by expanding the concepts of tolerance, respect for others and dignity to include: an awareness and sensitivity in the relations of people, including but not limited to, different races, weights, national origins, ethnic groups, religions, religious practices, mental or physical abilities, sexual orientations, gender identity, and sexes.

National origin discrimination involves treating people unfavorably because they are from a particular country or part of the world, because of ethnicity or accent, or because they appear to be of a certain ethnic background (even if they are not). National Origin Descrimination - EEOC

National origin discrimination also can involve treating people unfavorably because they are married to (or associated with) a person of a certain national origin. National Origin Descrimination - EEOC

Race, ethnicity and origin Please watch the following video about race, ethnicity and nationality.

While watching the following video, ask yourself:

Reflection Would you have confronted the store employee about his behavior? What would you have done in this scenario? Have you personally witnessed an instance of someone being refused service due to how they appear? Have you personally witnessed an instance of someone being treated differently or unfairly due to how they appear?

“Every person deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.” “That is NOT my America.” “Every person deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.” “My America is accepting of all people.”
