GOAL SETTING Goal Setting Working toward something you want to accomplish.

“What you do, where you go and what you become depends on your willingness to work towards a goal. You hold your destiny in your own hands.”

Types of Goals Short Term Goals Long Term Goals Goals you plan to achieve in a short period of time (days or weeks). They may be stepping stones to long term goals. Goals you plan to achieve within months or years.

The Goal setting process

Set a specific goal and write it down. 1. Set a specific goal and write it down. If you see it everyday, you are more likely to achieve the goal.

List the steps you will take. 2. List the steps you will take. Set short term goals to help you reach your long term goal.

Get help and support from others. 3. Get help and support from others. Share your goals with your friends, parents, and teachers.

Identify and overcome specific obstacles. 4. Identify and overcome specific obstacles. An obstacle is something out of your control that may keep you from achieving your goal. You may have to change your goal until you can figure out how to overcome the obstacle.

Benefits of Goals They make life interesting, exciting, and challenging. They give meaning and purpose to life. They motivate us and keep us moving forward. They give us a sense of direction. Goals help us reach our potential.
