In March 2014 we felt that the time was right!!! The consolidation work had been done. Full support and backing of Immediate Midwifery Management. Committee was in full swing. Full implementation of the BFHI ten steps became our goal.

Step 1: Written Policy 1. National feeding policy for Maternity and Neo natal Services HSE 2012 adapted as local policy. Implemented and disseminated to all hospital staff. 2. We visibly posted a laminated summary of this policy in three languages in all prominent throughout the hospital. 3. Step 2:Training All Health Care Staff All Hospital Management were made aware of the benefits of this Whole Hospital Initiative. We devised education sessions targeting Clinical and Non Clinical Staff . Carmel Byrne RM,Mary O Donnell RM 12/2/2018

Step 3:The ante natal discussion We devised renewed strategies for ante natal clinic education in the ANC. Visual: Posters Verbal: We developed a communication strategy for midwives to discuss these topics. Written: Laminated BFHI Links tied with coloured ribbons and left on chairs. Step 5: Showing Mothers how to B/F I Initiation P Position T Technique L Latch Staff Training : Study days.
