Welcome to Wiley’s World! Mrs. Wiley Senior English 120 Senior CP English 022 If you don’t want to learn, no one can make you; if you want to learn, no one can stop you.

Behavior Code Respect yourself and each other. Come prepared to learn – bring your own tools! Show kindness and patience even when it seems impossible. Clean up after yourself; custodians are not maids. Water bottles belong in your backpack; no food, candy, or other drinks. Discipline yourself so others don’t have to.

You can expect My Expectations Your best efforts Your complete attention Your questions Your interest You can expect My best efforts My complete attention My assistance upon request My interest in your progress

The Grades CDHS NEW District policy = 40% assessments; 30% quizzes; 30% homework/classwork/participation. No extra credit – sorry! The English department does not give retests. Life doesn’t either. Academic dishonesty – cheating, copying, collusion, etc., results in a ZERO and an office referral. Part of being an adult is managing your grades; you can’t be treated as an adult if you don’t behave as one.

The Back Board All homework assignments are listed on the back board, Google Classroom, & on my webpage. Use your planners to record due dates. You will need to manage your time to succeed in life and in this class. Assignments are due to the class basket at the start of the period unless otherwise specified. Late additions to the basket are noted. Write it down!!

My Webpage & Google Class Accessed via the CDHS District website Various resources and directions Copies of handouts Audio files for Senior English on website WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS – due dates for upcoming assignments. There are no excuses for not knowing a due date.

Google Classroom Codes Please join the appropriate class and respond to the assigned prompt by end of school Wednesday (first assignment!!). pd 1 – 3f8qmww pd 2 - ynn6a8 pd 4 – lz8oh2 pd 6 – bvlhcay pd 7 – foe1lzw pd 8 – 7feqm83

Attendance Of course, we did something while you were gone! Duh! Make up your work promptly. If you are on school property, your work is due to me. You are not considered absent. Absent on a due date? Your work is due the day you return UNLESS it is a DOA deadline (dead or alive). DOA = Turn it in/email it or take the penalty! Most writing assignments are due by 3:00 p.m. to accommodate printer issues.

Missed Class? Check on Google Classroom to see what you missed in class. Class outline will be published at the end of each day. Print out your handouts or pick them up on the front desk when you get to class. Consult with your partner to be sure you understand what you missed. Still need help? Check with me.

Make Up Work Schedule Day Assigned/Absent Work Due On Monday Wednesday Tuesday Thursday Friday This chart is only for work that is assigned on the day you are absent. Work that is DUE on the day you are absent is DUE the day you return to class.

Contact Me Located in Room 273 all day except 5th. Use school email ttwiley@cdschools.org DURING THE SCHOOL DAY; I will reply as soon as I can. Call me at home 657-2967 before 9p.m. for questions. Do not use school email in the evening for an immediate answer. I don’t check it. Call.

Cell Phones Unless I specifically ask you to use your phone during class, you are NOT permitted to have your phone out. If your phone is out for any reason, you are “USING” it. Wear a watch! Consider this your one warning! If you are too immature to be away from your phone for the length of a class period, then you are choosing to take the consequences.

Headphones and Ear Buds Please remove these before you come to class. Interact with humanity while you have the chance; these people won’t be with you next year. If I have to speak to you about your electronics, you will receive a consequence. I have zero tolerance for this issue.

The LAV You must have your planner signed to use the lav. You must sign out in the blue book to use the lav. You may not interrupt instruction to use the lav. Do not expect to use the lav every day in this class. Meet your SO some other time. Plan to wait until the end of the period because I start class on time.

Need More Help? Arrive by 6:50 a.m. Leave around 3:30 p.m., but can stay by appointment. Study hall period 3 Computer lab on Tuesdays (usually) until 5pm.

Emergency Procedures Fire exit is to the left and down the stairs – move across the drive to the grass. Alternate exit is center stairs. Form single file line for attendance – no talking. Line up behind tallest student. Code RED Inside – move under tables; no talking; no phone use. Code RED outside – move under windows; no talking; no phone use. Complete cooperation is required.

The Philosophy Every decision you make has consequences – good or bad. Choose wisely and create a life for yourself that you and your family are proud of. Be the GO-TO person to help others. If you are not making daily decisions that ultimately lead to your life’s goal, what are you doing wrong? Change it!

High Expectations, High Standards: No Excuses Stop expecting others to take care of you. Be responsible for your own life. Come to school to learn as much as you can – Stop asking, “Why do I have to learn this?” (Slumdog Millionaire) Be grateful that you go to a good school with teachers who are invested in helping you prepare for your successful future. Work WITH us, not against us to make your life great. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!!

June 5th Mark your calendar for an important appointment at 7:30 the Giant Center. Work towards meeting the goal of graduation eligibility every day. April is too late! A high school diploma is the first step to being the boss of your own life!
