NSW Australia Amanda Ianna PCRN MEETING 2017 – CRVS for Disasters

Overview Birth Registration is estimated to be: 94.4% complete – within 1 year of birth [adjust timeframe if needed] 99% of the total population is estimated to have had their birth registered – meaning 80,000 people are not registered Birth certificates are purchased by the family at birth for a cost of $56 Death Registration is estimated to be: 100% complete – within 1 year of death Cause of death from a medical certificate is provided for 80% of all deaths, the remaining 20% are supplied by the coroner.

DATA storage and Protection On this slide briefly describe NSW store all records from 1788 to the present on LifeLink in both digital format and images for some records All our records are electronic with the exception of some from 1788 to 1856 The NSW Register is held in the government Data Centre, with mirrored drives for redundancies, and we have a disaster recovery plan in place. Real time

Major challenges FOR CRVS (pre and post Disaster) Pick 2 key challenges that you have identified as priorities in your system planning – i.e. legislation updates, need to improve data sharing, access to registration. NSW has had DR plans for many years and fortunately we have not had to call on them since the implementation of LifeLink We have a direct feed from Health daily on Births, and Funeral Directors notify the registration of death using LifeLink and Medical Certificates are available from Medical Practitioners and hospitals.

disaster scale up Interestingly enough NSW does not have a plan for this.
