¡Informacion Importante! (Important Information!) Correct Cricket Incorrect Hernando de Soto was born in 1501 in Extremadura, Spain. He was a conquistador that became famous from the expedition of Francisco Pizarro. De Soto joined many expeditions including one to Panama in 1519, one to Colombia in 1522, one to Nicaragua in 1523, one to Peru in 1526, and one to Florida and the Mississippi River in 1539. He wanted to go to North America in search for treasure, the Fountain of Youth, and to conquer new lands. He went and came back with riches, furs, food and weaponry, which might have led to some of the unsuccessful things. He didn’t succeed in finding the Fountain of Youth, he ended up in Natives’ territories, and probably ended up having to face pirates. He did succeed in finding and conquering parts of Florida and exploring the Mississippi River. He died while he was in Louisiana from fever. He died on the Mississippi River when he was 41 years old (in 1542).
