DUPLICATING DNA 3/5/18

DNA HAS 2 JOBS 1. Identify your traits based on the genetic information from your parents 2. Create protein.

How is protein made? Step 1: Transcription When a section of your DNA is copied. ONLY on side of your DNA is copied and we call it RNA. The RNA is a single side of the DNA ATT GAC GTA CGA CAT GAG (RNA) UAA CUG CAU GCU GUA CUC (mRNA) mRNA is what matches to the RNA strand to complete it. ***ONLY difference Thymine isn’t used Adenine is paired with Uracil The reason it is called mRNA is because it is a MESSANGER. It will carry genetic information and proteins to the rest of the body to ensure that the body is doing what it is supposed to.

Amino Acids Each codon (3 nucleotides) creates a part of an amino acid, which is protein that the body uses to complete its functions. Each codon comes together to form a sequence of amino acids that are specific to the certain parts of the body. The mRNA carries these amino acids to the specific cells to ensure that the functions are taking place. How It Works http://learn.genetics.utah.edu/content/basics/transcribe/
