Homework #5 1. a) What are the EPA standards dealing with air quality in terms of particulate matter? b) How are they being revised? c) Give the rationale for the revision. 2. How do the coarse and fine particles affect the different regions for the respiratory system? 3. What are the forces affecting the motion of the aerosol particles? How are they used in determining their settling velocity?

Homework #5 4. What are the mechanisms by which an aerosol particle can be deposited on a fiber? 5. State the primary conclusions about the process conditions affecting the mass concentration level of cutting fluid mist. Discuss their validity based on the mechanics of mist formation. 6. Sketch block diagrams showing the cutting fluid maintenance scheme and its transfer function implementation.

Homework #5 7. Show typical data based models that can be used in the maintenance procedure. How are the parameters of these models estimated.
