The Animals of the World

Tigers Tigers are orange, black, and, or white Tigers are carnivores Tigers have big canine teeth Tigers are the largest wild cat in the world Tigers can weigh 720lbs. Tigers can be 6ft. long Tigers’ tails are 3ft. long Tigers usually eat 60lbs. of meat overnight and 12lbs. in 1 meal

Wilder Beasts They weigh 350-550lbs. Their other name is Wildebeest They are a type of antelope They live in woodlands and grassy plains in southern, central and eastern Africa They eat mostly grass Their lifespan in captivity is 21 years Their mating season is March and April

Whale Sharks 18m. Eat Zooplankton, small fish, and squid They are peaceful sharks They are 34 tons Their mouths are 3-4m. wide They are usually found 2-3m. deep

Anacondas They live in water and on dry land Some Anacondas are 50 and some are 100 feet long Anacondas have no venom The word Anaconda was in the English language They have no teeth

Buffalo They live in Africa and North America They weigh over 2,000lbs. Their diet is mostly grass They live in open grasslands, wooded savannas, and thickets In the wild they live for 15-20 years

Otters They are in the weasel family Adult males are, 70-90lbs. Females are, 40-60lbs. Adults are 4-5 feet long When the fur on their head turns gray, their nickname is “Old Man of the Sea” They mate at all times of the year

Giant Squid They hunt by grabbing their prey with their tentacles, then with their jaws, they poison the victim Their predator is the Sperm Whale Their eyes are the size of basketballs Scientists think they swim at depths of 100-200m. They are 8.2m. long

Purple Martins They are the largest of the North American swallows They weigh 40-60g. Their wingspan is 39-41cm. Indians used gourds as houses for them They go to South America for the winter

Ruby Throated Hummingbirds Their eggs are the size of peas They weigh about 3-4g. Females are 15-20% larger than males They are about 8.5cm. Long Their wings beat 60-80 times per sec. They usually fly 25mph. When they migrate across the Gulf of Mexico. It takes 20 hours

Bald Eagles They usually fly 35-44mph. They are 32-40in. Long Their wingspan is 6-8ft. Males are smaller than females They live in seacoasts, forests, valleys, mountain regions, lakes, and rivers Diet: fish, waterfowl, and small to medium mammals

Manatees They are related to elephants There are 3 types of manatees: the Amazonian Manatee, the West African Manatee, and the West Indian Manatee It takes a manatee 7 days to digest 1 meal Manatees have no front teeth Manatees are vegetarians After every meal Manatees clean extra food out of their mouth with rocks or an anchor rope Manatees have 2 relatives: the Dugong, and the now extinct Steller’s Sea Cow The West Indian Manatee is sometimes called the Florida Manatee Manatees don’t stay mated for life My friends’ mom giving 3 wild manatees a drink from a hose at a harbor in Sugar Loaf Key, Florida

Barracudas They live in the ocean They are carnivores You can swim with them Their average size is, 6ft. in length and 1ft. in width They can swim 25mph. They weigh 100lbs. They are cold-blooded

Cardinals Females have a pink bill They are omnivores Their average lifespan in the wild is 15 years They are 8-9in. They are about the size of teacups

Seahorses Sometimes they give birth to 1,500 babies at a time They can blend in with their surroundings They have flakey scales so they can look like sea weed They live in the tropics or along temperate coasts An adult can be 2-8in. tall

Manta Rays Diet: plankton, small fish, shrimp, crabs, and small crustaceans They are filter feeders Lifespan is 18-20 years When born, they are about 45in. wide and weigh about 20lbs. Breeding season is December and April To breed they jump 7ft. out of the water, and in the air they have birth

Leopard Frogs They are often called meadow, or cow frogs They are in the family of Ranidae They are about 3in. in length Diet as frog: insects, earthworms, other frogs, snails, spiders, small animals, small mice, and fish

Giant Clams They can weigh over 500lbs. They live in shallow water in the Pacific Ocean from Thailand and Japan to Australia and Micronesia They can go 20m. deep

Bottlenose Dolphin Diet: fish, squid, and crustaceans, such as shrimp Calves are born throughout the year A female can have a baby every 2-3yrs. Babies can come out tail first, or head first Calves are 42-52in. long Calves are darker than adults Nursing can only last 5-10sec.

Red Pandas They are very rare They like to live in bamboo forests in Sichuan and Yunnan, China and the Himalayas They share part their range with the Giant Panda Diet: bamboo leaves, berries, blossoms, bird eggs, and various plants’ small leaves

Great Hammerhead Shark They can be 20ft. They can weigh1,000lbs Diet: small sharks, rays and sting rays, squid, and bony fish They live in warm waters near continental shelves

Tiger Sharks Their teeth are shaped like cockscombs Eat sea turtles, seals, sea lions, and cetaceans They are active at night Normal Diet: cattle, pigs, donkeys, sheep, and humans that have fallen overboard They also eat: venomous jellyfish, sting rays, and sea snakes

Clouded Leopards The Clouded Leopard got it’s name because the spots on it’s back are shaped like clouds They live on Borneo, Sumatra, and the Batu Islands They usually weigh around 55lbs. Their canine teeth are 2 inches long Their tail can be as long as their body They like to live in rainforests
