Denotation & Connotation Denotation: The strict “dictionary definition” of a word. Connotation: The emotions attached to a word. Words can have a positive connotation or a negative connotation.

Snake Denotation: a long limbless reptile that has no eyelids, a short tail, and jaws that are capable of considerable extension. Some snakes have a venomous bite. Connotation: something or someone to be feared for their deception.

House vs. Home A house is a structure or dwelling where people live. A home is a place where one feels comfortable, safe, and loved.
