Power Save Mechanism for Unsync MPs Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 January 2007 Power Save Mechanism for Unsync MPs Date: 2007-01-08 Authors: Notice: This document has been prepared to assist IEEE 802.11. The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE 802.11. Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures <http:// ieee802.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair <stuart.kerry@philips.com> as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE 802.11 Working Group. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at <patcom@ieee.org>. Kai Yang, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd John Doe, Some Company

Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 January 2007 Abstract This submission proposes a more efficient Power Save Mechanism for unsync MPs. It is intended to resolve problems with the current Power Save Mechanism. Kai Yang, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd John Doe, Some Company

PS mode in the current spec Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 January 2007 PS mode in the current spec According to P802.11s-D1.0 : “A mesh point shall enter awake state prior to every TBTT that matches the mesh DTIM interval of its own or of its neighbor MPs with which it maintains a peer relationship.” [in clause 11A.9.6] “A mesh point that entered the awake state due to the DTIM TBTT event and had not sent an ATIM, a broadcast frame, or a multicast frame, and did not receive a directed or multicast ATIM, a broadcast frame, or a multicast frame, may return to the Doze state following the end of the ATIM window.” [in clause 11A.9.6] Kai Yang, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd John Doe, Some Company

Suggestions for PSM of Unsync MPs January 2007 Suggestions for PSM of Unsync MPs The ATIM window following the DTIM Beacon of an unsync MP should be a private window, and during this ATIM window, its neighbors shall transmit ATIM frames only to this MP. Therefore the window size may be smaller than the original one. Unsync MPs transmit DTIM Beacon with TIM IE indicate the existence of the traffic buffered to neighboring MPs in PS mode, and they shall not transmit ATIM frames. Neighboring MPs may return to doze state immediately after receiving the DTIM Beacon from an unsync MP if they have no traffic buffered to the unsync MP and the unsync MP indicates no traffic buffered to them via its TIM IE. This is more efficient in power saving for MPs in PS mode. Kai Yang, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd
