Analyzing climate graphs and lamecow World Geography Intro and Physical Geography Unit

For today, 09/16 Get out (not turn in) your Climate Zone Maps from Monday’s class. Get out your laptop and read about climate graphs at: http://goo.gl/tfS5Pw

Reading a climate graph Precipitation Precipitation measurement Climate Climate measurement

Lamecow and lend = factors that affect climate L Latitude A Air pressure M Mountains E Elevation C Continental location O Ocean currents W Wind currents L Latitude E Elevation N Nearness to water D Direction of wind/ocean current

Your assignment: (1.) Choose two different climates. (2.) Choose any large city from each climate. (3.) Research and draw each city’s climate graph. Cite your source! (4.) Use LAMECOW or LEND to explain the climate of each city.

Ignore the remaining slides….

Analyzing climate graphs and lamecow 1.) Select any two cities, each one coming from these regions: South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Central America, Oceania 2.) Research and sketch the city’s climate graph. 3.) Identify the climate found in that city and use it to explain the climate graph (IOW, explain the characteristics of the climate using the c.g. as proof). Climate types can be found in chapter 3 of book or in one of my atlases. 4.) Use two factors of LAMECOW to explain the climate of the city.

Indianapolis, indiana

Example: 1. ) North America: Indianapolis, Indiana, United States 2.) See last slide for my “drawing”  3.) The climate type found in Indianapolis, IN is humid continental. This can be seen from the climate graph because of the fluctuation in temperature – it is evident that there are four distinct seasons. 4.) Latitude: mid-latitude location Continental location: temperature shows fluctuation which means it isn’t coastal
