Certified Hospital Emergency Coordinator (CHEC) Training Program Annexes and Appendices

Objectives Define Annexes and Appendices Differentiate between the two Discuss their importance Understand why they are needed and when to create them

Annexes The word “annex” is defined as an added stipulation, statement, or subordinate info, especially to a document. In the context of emergency management, annexes are added to EOPs to describe operations for a particular function Annexes are action oriented Definition from Merriam Webster

Annexes assign specific areas of responsibility during a response These are detailed in three types of Annexes: Emergency Support Function Annexes Support Annexes Incident Annexes 3 types-examples given on next 3 slides, do NOT stop here to discuss, stop on each of the next 3 slides instead.

Annexes State Public Health EOP Example Emergency Support Function (ESF) Annex ESF 6 Mass Care, Housing and Human Services ESF 8 Health & Medical Services

Support Annexes (standard operating procedures & guidelines) A Public Health EOP Support Annexes (standard operating procedures & guidelines) Ex: Alert & Notification Ex: Mortuary Support Ex: Mental Health

A Public Health EOP Incident Annexes Ex: Protocol Manual for Chem/Bio Agents Ex: Pandemic Influenza Plan Ex: Airport Incident Annex

Appendices An “appendix” is defined as supplementary material at the end of a document, usually of an explanatory, statistical, or bibliographic nature Appendices provide additional general and supporting information, including terms, definitions, acronyms, maps, etc. Definition paraphrased from dictionary

Appendices Appendices may also be attached to functional Annexes and should have sections corresponding to those in the Annex for which supplementary hazard- specific information is required “an appendix to an annex”

Annexes & Appendices Are often overlooked tools in EOP development Allow for endless augmentation of the base plan Provide quicker, easier reference for specific hazards
