Section 5.1 Solving inequalities Solve inequalities using addition and subtraction. SWBAT:

DEFINITIONS: What is an inequality? The comparison of two expressions that are not equal to each other. What are the inequality signs? Set Notation: {variable | answer }  {x | x > 3}

Examples: Define a variable, write an inequality, and solve each problem. Check your solution. 1. The sum of a number and 17 is no less than 26. 2. Twice a number minus 4 is less than three times the number.

Examples: Define a variable, write an inequality, and solve each problem. Check your solution. 3. Twelve is at most a number decreased by 7. 4. Eight plus four times a number is greater than five times the number.

Graphs of Inequalities: Symbol Old way < or > Open Circle Closed Circle

Examples: Solve and graph
