Objectives Understand how the treaty of Versailles punished Germany Understand why Americans opposed membership in the League of Nations

Paris Peace Conference A peace conference was formed in Paris in January of 1919 Woodrow Wilson Lead the American delegation

The Big Four At the conference major decisions were made by Lloyd George of Great Britain, Georges Clemenceau of France, Vittorio Orlando of Italy and Woodrow Wilson of the U.S.

The Big Four Wilson had the idea of “Peace without Victory”, however the other allies did not share that sentiment.

Treaty of Versailles After difficult negotiations, the Allies determined how Germany was to be dealt with.

Treaty of Versailles The treaty handled Germany quite severely which Wilson objected to.

The main terms of the Versailles Treaty were: (1) the surrender of all German colonies as League of Nations mandates; It also had provisions for the creation of the League of Nations

Versailles Treaty The only way Woodrow Wilson would agree to the treaty was to have the provisions for the League of Nations in the treaty Quiz 23-4A
