STATISTICAL GENETICIST DR. JANET SINSHEIMER Place of Employment: University of California, Los Angeles Type of Work: Performs statistical modeling of genetic and evolutionary data. “Mathematics, just like biology, comes in a lot of forms and not everybody is good at all types.”

CAREERS IN SPOTLIGHT: STATISTICAL GENETICIST What do they do? Statistical Geneticists work on methods in linkage analysis, allelic association tests, gene statement array data analysis, sequence analysis, comparative genomics, phylogenetic tree reconstruction, etc.. What kind of training is involved? Bachelor of Statistics degree. However, research and academic jobs generally require a PhD. What is a typical salary for a Research Scientist? Ranges with experience. A PhD can earn from ~$125,000 to $300,000/year ($60‐$144/hour) or more.
