Using Media
Using Media – Rules to Remember Teaching is not done by the media. Teaching is done by the teacher so remember that you and not the media are doing the teaching. This is true even if you do not consider yourself a great teacher. Students are easy to distract. Remember that whatever media you use should not distract the student’s attention from where you want the students to focus which is on whatever message that you are trying to get across to the students that day, or any other day for that matter! You should never select the media because it is “wow!” “sexy” or has a lot of flash. Even if it uses your favorite color, your significant other’s favorite color or your Mother-in-law’s typing style, it might not be the best choice for students in your class. The very best philosophy when it comes to deciding how to construct visuals for PowerPoint, or any media, is the following. When in doubt, keep it simple so your message is not lost in the razzle dazzle of the cute stuff.
