America the Beautiful

Do you recognize this song? This song describes America’s beauty. The words to this song were written by Katharine Lee Bates in 1893. http://bussongs.com/assets/midi/americathebeautiful.mid

She made a cross country trip from Boston to Colorado Springs, Colorado.

After she climbed to the top of Pike’s Peak, she was inspired to write this poem. The poem was later set to music.

O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America!

America!

God shed His grace on thee,

And crown thy good

with brotherhood

From sea

to shining sea!

From one coast to the other
