Imagery and Setting Mini Lesson

Imagery: Using words that appeal to the senses A writer must totally involve the reader in order to make the writing enjoyable to read. A writer must appeal to the senses. If a reader can see, smell, taste, or touch what the character experiences, the writing is of high quality. A. "The child got mad at the teacher.” Scale of 1-5 on how interesting is that sentence is to read. Would you want to read more? B. The bang of the door echoed through the hall as Billy left the room after a long detention. Scale? C. Using the original sentence, create your own improved example Shoulder buddy minute to share. Pick the best to share out.

For each of the words in italics below, add at least two describing words to make the sentences appeal to your readers’ senses The pizza tasted great. The class was boring. The football team thinks they are so cool. My teacher is weird. The mugger attacked his victim.

Using Imagery in Setting Based on the Wordle displayed, illustrate the image those words could be describing Group work: Create your own wordle of your postcard. Think specifically of creating a setting using imagery words. Switch wordles and illustrate the scene being described
