Proposed Revision to Standards of Accreditation Regarding Locally Awarded Verified Credits, According to Criteria and Procedures Dr. Cynthia A. Cave Assistant Superintendent of Policy and Communications March 21, 2018

Locally Awarded Verified Credit Student has not passed the Standards of Learning test twice Score is between 375 and 399 on at least one attempt Demonstration of achievement and mastery through local appeal process

For Students under Current SOA (2015) Entering ninth grade prior to 2018-2019 May earn a locally awarded verified credit in History/ Social Science Science Student Selected Test Limited to three (Six verified credits needed for graduation)

For Students under SOA Effective 2018-2019 Academic Year Entering ninth grade in fall of 2018-2019 or after May earn a locally awarded verified credit in Mathematics English (reading/writing) History/Social Science Science Limited to one (Five verified credits needed for Standard Diploma)

Proposal: Through Emergency Regulations Extend the ability to earn a locally awarded verified credit to students entering ninth grade prior to 2018-2019 to the subjects of Mathematics English (reading/writing) Limited to three (History/Social Science and Science and Student Selected Test available)

Emergency Regulations No policy reason to apply one set of rules to one group of students and a different set to another group Emergency action allows for parity among high school cohorts In place for this spring Followed by permanent regulations
