Main Idea Who is the main character? What is the main problem in the story? What does he learn? How does he change?

Author’s Purpose: What does the author want you to think of illegal immigration? Do the illegal immigrants want to be illegal? Why are they breaking the law? Joe breaks the law to help Luisa and the others. Why are his parents proud of him?

Who do you think the author supports? Based on what you have read, do you think the writer of this story thinks that illegal immigrants should return to their country? Do you think the writer would support the Dream Act? Why or why not?
