Slide in! A m dern s lution to parallel parking By: Nabi Wahedun, Reed Scheinberg, Youssif Hassan

Brief Information Spoke to 10 customers Our product is a new design for the wheels of cars. The wheels turn sideways, at a 90 degree angle, allowing cars to ‘slide in’ to parking spaces. Our product alleviates the pains with parallel parking, such as fitting into smaller parking spaces, needing to look behind you while parking, and stopping traffic behind you for long periods of time. People should care about our product because it will solve the problems associated with parallel parking that a lot of people have every day.

-Engineers -Customer feedback -Collaboration with larger companies - Presenting our ideas -Ease parallel parking for day to day people -Take less time to park -Parallel park would be a Snap! -No more struggle with parking -Customer interviews -Through their car manufacturers -People who struggle with parking -People who want to save time -People who are interested in new technologies for their cars -Eventually, everyone who uses a car -The Internet -Professors and Teachers -Mainly through car manufacturers N/A -Every car sold by the manufacturers we license our design to, we get a royalty

Customer Archetypes Interview 1: Female, late 40s, accountant: Biggest problem is finding parking spots, and fitting into small spots with her car. Drives everyday to go to work. Rushed for time, so parking is something she doesn’t look forward to. Interview 2: Male, early 30s, lawyer: Owns expensive car. Commutes to work via the subway, drives on weekends with his family. Often is afraid to parallel park because he bumps into other cars, so he tries to use garages. Interview 3: Male, mid 50s, doctor: Drives to work, and with family. Owns two cars: smaller one for work, minivan for family. Can’t see behind him when he tries to parallel park his minivan, so he also uses garages often Hard to fit his minivan in smaller parking spaces.

What did we learn? We learned that parallel parking is a big issue for many people especially here in the city where the chances of finding a decent parking space is the same as winning the lottery. We thought that having our device allow users to slide into the parking space rather than the usual parallel parking would save time, relieve stress, and prevent collisions that would also save money. To test our hypothesis we went out and let the people speak for themselves. We interviewed drivers of any age and gender and asked them about their driving experiences. Also if they have tried to do anything to solve the problem themselves. We found that more than 70% of the drivers were dealing with issues regarding to finding parking and actually parking. Some people even pay parking garages to park their car to save time and energy from parking.
