EDGAR DEGAS

Edgar Dega was one of the most famous French impressonists

The painter specialized in painting ballet dancers and he was fascinated by them.

He made over 1,500 paintings and drawings of them

He showed dancers in many poses, not just dancing but going to classes, chatting and trying their shoes

As he grew older he suffered eye problems and began to make more sculptures instead of paintings

Degas made “Little Dancer Aged Fourteen” in 1880 Degas made “Little Dancer Aged Fourteen” in 1880. The master gave to the bronze sculpture a real cloth skirt a hair ribbon

Degas wanted to show how people really move catching them in just their awkward unbalanced poses other artists avoided
