Why did Washington attack Trenton on Christmas day?

Washington needed to win a battle so his men would re-enlist. The Hessians would not be expecting an attack on the day after Christmas because British troops didn’t fight in the winter time. Washington needed a win because his men’s enlistments would be finished on December 31st.

Whose army? The British troops were known as Lobsterbacks.
