Defining the Pool Schools should use AP Potential to identify and encourage students that may not otherwise be actively recruited for participation in AP, but that show a promise for succeeding in such courses. schools should start by generating a roster of students that have anywhere from a 60-100% likelihood of scoring 3 or higher. If the resulting list is larger than can be accommodated by a single section of an AP course, the school should consider adding sections and/or training additional teachers to offer the AP course. If the AP teacher has considerable experience and has a track record of helping a majority of her/his students score 3 or higher, the school should generate a roster of students with lower likelihood of scoring 3 or higher, out of recognition that the AP Potential predictions only account for a portion of the factors that contribute to the students' exam results, and that a good teacher can help students with lower statistical correlations achieve high performance on AP Exams.
