MJR 7 By Marty Ogle

A very quick review So many parents, teachers and students have asked me, “Why doesn’t MJR continue in Secondary School?” Or, “We need MJR even more in Grade 7”. Two years ago, I began writing ‘MJR type’ lessons for secondary. We spoke to students, staff and parents about relevant topics. Refined these to 30.

Decisions Decisions Looked at Religious Education content Scripture Jesus Connection Virtues Prayer / Reflection Initially its name was Jesus Makes it Real, now MJR 7, but this is likely to change again. Finding its relationship with the Religious Education curriculum plus other curriculum areas AND everyday life! We needed to ask … “WHERE does MJR fit or will it fit into the secondary timetable?” A better question … “WHERE does MJR reach and affect?”

So where are we up to? Draft Topics Looking Ahead  What Do You Believe? Believe In Yourself (B.I.Y.) To Fit In Or Not to Fit In is the Question You Are In-charge Of Your Attitude Problem Solving I Can Do It Attitude Grit and Resilience Grief & Loss An Attitude Of Gratitude How Do You G.T.S. Some examples of the Catholic & MJR Learning Intentions THE ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE During Jesus’ time of earth, many people appreciated what he did for them. His message has continued through 2000 years, and we will identify moments when we need to get into the habit of thanking and appreciating what is done for us today. The act of gratitude is a habit to foster and cultivate. CHOICES! CHOICES! CHOICES! Pope Francis uses social media platforms to get his message across. Students will research what he has said and then discern, after discussions, its effectiveness. The students will discuss the effects and learn the positives and negatives social media may have on their lives. Opening the G.A.T.E. Gratitude, Appreciation, Thankfulness & Enthusiasm (G.A.T.E.) will create a positive environment. We will discuss through dialogue these four verbs and how it can improve yours (and others) quality of life.
