Introduction to Metabolism & Homeostasis Quiz 1.1.2 Look at my notes under each slide For this quiz I am going to give you the questions with wrong answers from the person who took the quiz. No worries if you are the person who took it, next time please send me the snip of the questions and answers please. I am also going to give you a page number or section where the correct answer should come from, I am NOT going to give you the correct answer. It is your responsibility to re-read the section, consult the internet or email me with questions about the quiz if you do not understand it. The goal of this semester is to prepare each of you for the AP Biology Test. This means we need to make sure we understand the material, not just know the answers. I hope these videos help and if you need anything please email me at coachzang@gmail.com

Question 1 If you look on page 33 in the book you will see a paragraph referring to how organisms are highly complex and use changes in free energy, please come up with the correct answer.

Question 2 On page 31 you can come up with the correct answer.

Question 3 On page 615 you will find that metabolism is reduced during hibernation allowing the animal to survive off of their stored fat; keep in mind a pregnant bear (or any animal) requires a higher amount of energy. Do you best to come up with the correct answer.

Question 4 On page 33 you will find the Second Law of Thermodynamics. It is very important that you understand this law, as it will come up in the future. The second law states that energy reaction will have some energy that becomes unusable and that this is known as entropy. Entropy can be a confusing concept so I like to think of it as “energy dispersal” or “spreading of energy” those terms allow you to better “see” what entropy means. It basically goes over how energy is spread.

Question 5 This question can be found in section 2.5 which starts on page 31. Most of you can determine the answer just by thinking for a moment…why do we need energy in our bodies??? They also discuss energy needs on page 606.

Question 6 Section 29.4 page 615 talks about how each cell must make its own ATP.

Question 7 Even though the right answer is identified I want you to make sure you understand it, if not consult page 608-609.

Question 8 I could not find where it talks about reproduction in the assigned reading. If I were you I would research the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction.

Question 9 Again this is the Second Law of Thermodynamics, page 33.

Question 10 Read section 29.6 page 619

Question 11 Flip to page 620 to read about positive feedback.

Question 12 Go back to section 2.5 page 32to find out about the type of energy used within a cell.

Question 13 Stay on page 32 to determine the difference between the different types of reactions.

Question 14 On page 610 you can read about the different types of mechanisms and determine the correct answer.

Question 15 Page 616 will help you determine which structures help with metabolism and homeostasis.

ASK FOR HELP!! coachzang@gmail.com Please email me the best way to get a hold of you Once you have completed the quiz I would like you to complete the study guide 1.1.3 If we do not have school on Tuesday I need you work on the study guide. Our lab for this section is a 3 day lab so you need to plan on coming in at 7:30 am on the next A day. It should be Thursday but I’m not sure when it is. It would also be really helpful if I had phone numbers for all of you, please email me the best way to get a hold of you. McKenzie, Rose and Emily I gotcha covered.
