The Development of Music Notation

Guido D'Arezzo (991/992- circa1033) A Music theorist of the Medieval era: He is regarded as the inventor of modern staff notation.

D’Arezzo came up with a method for teaching singers music more easily. His book Micrologus (1025 or 1026) describes his teaching method and features an early form of the musical staff. He also developed the Guidonian Hand, which used an early form a the musical language that would become Solfege.(do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do)
