Presentation transcript:

SCENARIO TALK Box Cutter Injury What We Learned: Going Forward: Recently a Colby custodian was breaking down cardboard boxes for recycling. The box was heavily wrapped with tape and the custodian was forced to use a box cutter to cut through. The custodian followed the correct procedures and cut away from themselves, however, the box cutter got stuck in the excess tape. The employee pulled back on the knife to free it and in the process cut their off hand when the blade jerked free. What We Learned: Accidents can still occur even when we follow the required procedures. The Safety Department and your supervisor cannot predict or protect you from every potential accident…You MUST watch out for and be aware of your own safety. Accidents and injuries often happen quickly and without warning. Going Forward: Going forward all Colby Custodians must wear leather gloves when using a box cutter for any task. Gloves will be provided by your Supervisor. Worn gloves can be exchanged for new gloves as needed. BOX CUTTER PIC HERE
