Today’s focus…the pipeline Big theme within SCHA workforce efforts is connecting and convening partners (think: state agencies, K-12, higher education, industry experts, etc.) In order to be successful, we must collaborate with partners to ensure everyone is working together and in the same direction to accomplish a unified goal of improving the state’s healthcare workforce pipeline and expanding/sustaining the state’s healthcare workforce

BeSomethingAmazing www.besomethingamazing.com Designed to give individuals interested in healthcare careers a resource for accurate, updated information about a variety of occupations With the career starter tool, users can input their desired minimum salary and education level to identify alignment between their preferences and certain healthcare careers; -new videos and career profiles added this past year -constantly adding new content and updating resources -all videos are real healthcare professionals working in SC Once you click on a career profile, you can see: -median annual salary in SC; -spotlight video -general job description -associated level of patient contact -employment outlook -links to educational institutions in SC offering degrees/certificates/programs required for the career Also have a blog

Pipeline Partners SC Department of Employment & Workforce SC Department of Commerce SC Department of Education Health Occupations Students of America SC Technical College System SC Council of Deans & Directors (nursing programs) DEW: -mention work with Shuana (touch on specific points she highlights) -identifying current picture/alignment of data sources to ultimately answer question of whether we are fulfilling the needs of our higher demand occupations -also, important to make sure we’re all reading from the same playbook; if partners are looking at different sets of data, efforts may not align Dept. od Education: -work closely with DOE; specifically with the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) group -jointly participate in grant opportunity that allows both partners to: -educate future employees about healthcare career opportunities in SC; -strengthen and expand resources to attract and build a more educated, competitive workforce; HOSA: -Personal relation to HOSA, as I was a student member in high school and college -SCHA has a seat on the SC HOSA Board of Directors, along with state hospitals and state universities -Angel is here if you have any questions specific to HOSA
