Poetry Analysis – Harlem Renaissance Literature Cullen vs. Hughes

Cullen vs. Hughes Divide your paper into four squares. The top half of your paper will be dedicated to Hughes only. Label your top left square “The Weary Blues”. Label the top right square “Harlem”. Identify the mood (an adjective describing the feeling or atmosphere) of each poem and provide three details from each poem to support each mood. The bottom half of your paper will be used to compare and contrast the two Harlem Renaissance poets. Label the bottom left square “Cullen” and bottom right square “Hughes” Compare and contrast the different ways each poet speaks out against racial oppression. Use examples from both poems for each poet to support your answer. This is an individual activity / Due today! You have a Harlem Renaissance open-note test Friday!
