Chemistry in a Nutshell: States of Matter Level 2 Adapted from the Tarheel Reader book by wpage

Matter takes up space.

Matter is made of atoms. Matter is everything around you.

They are called "States of Matter". Matter has different forms. They are called "States of Matter".

There are three states of matter. Matter is everything around you.

A solid has a definite shape. The atoms do not move.

Ice is a solid. Matter is everything around you.

It can take the shape of a container. A liquid does not have a definite shape. The atoms can flow. It can take the shape of a container.

Rain is a liquid. Matter is everything around you.

It can take the shape of a container.

It can spread out to fit any container. A gas does not have a definite shape. The atoms move the most. It can spread out to fit any container.

Steam is a gas. Matter is everything around you.

Air is a gas. It can spread out to fit any container.

Matter is everything around you: solid, liquid and gas.
