Children Act (1989) (2004) Children are seen as looked after when they come into care - section 31 (care order) under the Children Act, This means they will be looked after by the local authority, Bringing a child into care should always be the last option and practitionners should always work towards keeping a child at home, The local authority is then responsible for making key decisions on the behalf of the child, but this does not negate the parental responsibility of the parent.

P1 and P2 task – Case study based report P1 – outline why children and young people may need to be looked after away from their families, P2 – outline the arrangements for providing quality care for looked after children and young people.

P1 and P2 Using the case studies provided, you will be writing an preliminary report identifying the reasons why each of the children and young people identified in the case studies, need to be looked after away from home. You will also be required to identify the arrangements which will be beneficial to their care – you must refer to PIES aspects.
