The hunger games By: jennilynn miller and Austin land

Question -Why did Suzanne Collins name the country where the Hunger Games took place Panem?

Answer- This word ,panem, comes from a Latin language Suzanne Collins named the country that the hunger games took place in panem because the definition of panem is Provision of the means of life and recreation by government to appease discontent or other known as bread and games. suzanne collins choose this name to make it seem like the gladiator games and the greek mythology story of theseus and minotaur. it was a form of appeasement for the other community and it was. The hunger games is all about fighting to the death and surviving for the governments entertainment. So the name panem is a perfect country name because it comes from Ancient Rome where they had gladiator fights to the death in a big colosseum. Ancient Rome and panem and the hunger games also connect because in the hunger games people were kept prisoner in little town like districts by the government and in Ancient Rome the gladiators were prisoners and fought for public entertainment but the in the hunger games the only difference is the people fought for the entertainment of the government.

Question- what is the purpose of the arena in the hunger games

Answer- Beginning in the eighth century B. C Answer- Beginning in the eighth century B.C., Ancient Rome grew from a small town on central Italy's Tiber River into an empire that at its peak encompassed most of continental Europe, Britain, much of western Asia, northern Africa and the Mediterranean islands. Among the many legacies of Roman dominance are the widespread use of the Romance languages (Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Romanian) derived from Latin, the modern Western alphabet and calendar and the emergence of Christianity as a major world religion. After 450 years as a republic, Rome became an empire in the wake of Julius Caesar's rise and fall in the first century B.C. The long and triumphant reign of its first emperor, Augustus, began a golden age of peace and prosperity; by contrast, the empire's decline and fall by the fifth century A.D. was one of the most dramatic implosions in the history of human civilization
