Persecution of the Jews

Starter In your books: Give me 3 features of a democracy 2 features of a dictatorship 1 reason why you think a dictatorship/democracy is better.

Objectives: What…? How…? Why…? Learning Gain: All learners will know how and why Jewish people were persecuted. What…? How…? Why…? Objectives: …are we learning this? …are we going to learn? …are we learning? To understand why the Jews were persecuted and the historical meaning of this. Through discussion, a kinaesthetic activity and a written activity. If we can understand why persecution occurred we can prevent it from happening in the future.

Are all laws good or can some be bad? Main Are all laws good or can some be bad? Why do we have them? What are laws? With your partner discuss these two questions and record you thoughts as two spider-diagrams

Synagogues and Jewish homes were burned down and windows of shops were smashed

1939 Germany occupation of Czechoslovakia begins Germany invades Poland Jews in Poland and Czechoslovakia begin to be persecuted All Jews in Nazi controlled territory forced to wear a yellow star

Jews may not leave their houses without permission form the police. 1940-42 Nazis begin the first mass murder of Jews in Poland. Jews are put into concentration camps. Nazi officials discuss the 'Final Solution' - their plan to kill all European Jews - to the government officials. 1940 1942 Jews are placed in ghettos Jews may not leave their houses without permission form the police. 1941

Demonstrate Using your information, In your books produce a timeline showing the persecution of Jews throughout history. In 1933 Hitler became the Chancellor in Germany. Violence began, Jews were forced out of Jobs in the press and the civil service. Jewish shops were boycotted
