Warm-Up 4/9/18 Watch the video and be prepared to define latitude and longitude!

Learning Target: We will understand the location and characteristics of places and regions of the United States, past and present Success Criteria: I will describe the difference between lat/long and complete a lat/long map.

Latitude and Longitude You will work on a latitude and longitude assignment. Easy way to remember… Latitude lays flat Longitude long Longitude lines go up and down, latitude lines go round and round

Location What are two ways you determine location and how are they different? Absolute Location- determined by a location lines of latitude and longitude Relative Location- determined by a place’s location to something else

Place A place is defined by its physical and human characteristics. How do you describe what a place is like? A place is defined by its physical and human characteristics. Physical- mountains, rivers, plains, plateaus, etc. Human- language, ethnicity, religion, etc.

Interaction How do humans rely on, adapt to, and modify their environment? Human rely on their environment by utilizing what it provides Humans alter their life based on what they cannot change. (warm clothes during winter) Humans modify their environment by changing what they can. (building dams or canals)

Movement Movement encourages people, ideas, and goods to spread. How does the movement of people, goods, and ideas affect an area’s geography? Movement encourages people, ideas, and goods to spread. New things take hold in areas that had not previously been there.

Region What makes a region? A region is an area that has at least one unifying characteristic.

Road Map Activities Complete the Neighborhood Road Map Activity. Read the instructions for each map. Purpose of the map… to be able to tell the direction
