Presentation transcript:

New Chapter: Wave-like properties of particles We will begin with a story about “FLASHES OF INSIGHT” as Dr. Krane calls them in our textbook. All started from the idea of a young French aristocrat, Prince Louis de Broigle. His thinking was in a large measure driven by AESTETICISM (world is essentially beautiful, the laws of nature also should be). There is a book in which I found an excellent description of De Broigle’s discovery – namely, Understanding Quantum Physics by Michael A. Morrison. I can hardly imagine that I would be able tell the story better than he does. So, I think It is a good idea to copy some pages from that book, so that we can read them together on the screen. Not everything! In class, we will read only some selected paragraphs. But I encourage you to read again at home, perhaps more paragraphs. And, of course, don’t forget to read about the de Broigle discovery in our textbook!
