SPY PLANE FLEW OVER CUBA Topic: cuba 11th September Kennedy warned the USSR that he would prevent by ‘whatever means might be necessary’ Cuba’s becoming an offensive military base i.e. nuclear missile base. The USSR responded that it had no need and no intention of putting nuclear missiles on Cuba. After the Bay of Pigs the USSR gave Cuba huge numbers of weapons, By 1962 Latin America was equipped with thousands of Soviet missiles, patrol boats, tanks, radar vans, missile erectors, jet bombers, jet fighter and 5,000 Soviet technicians to help to maintain the weapons. 14TH OCTOBER 1962 AN AMERICAN SPY PLANE FLEW OVER CUBA It showed detailed photographs of military sites: They were nuclear missile sites They were being built by the USSR.
