Warm-Up What is the slope of the line through the points (-4, -2) and (-1, -7)? What is the slope-intercept form of 3x+9y=27? The cost of renting a moving van is $25 a day, plus $0.35 per mile driven. Write an equation to model this situation.

REVIEW- LINEAR EQUATIONS

SOLVE for each variable. 1) 5( r + 3) = -2 ( r + 9 ) 2) 2 ( -2x + 4) = 4 (-x + 2) 3) 3 ( x + 7) = 3 ( x – 9)

Meaning of…. All real numbers? No solution?

Summary y=mx+b Ax+By=C y-y1=m(x-x1) X and y are variables Slope - Int. Form Standard Form Point - Slope Form y=mx+b Ax+By=C y-y1=m(x-x1) X and y are variables X and y are variables X and y are variables (x1 y1) is a point on the equation or graph, m is slope M=slope b=y-intercept A, B, & C are whole integers

Converting Forms to Standard Form to Slope Intercept Form

Graphing a line given the equation Step 1: Graph the y-intercept. Step 2: Using the slope, graph a second point on the line. Step 3: Draw a line through the two points

In word problems use… Slope Intercept Form- Word Problems that have a flat fees/one-time payments Standard Form- With two items that add up to a total

Word Problems: 1) In American Football, a field goal earns 3 points and a touchdown (with extra point) earns 7. The Panthers scored 48 points in there most recent game, with 6 touchdowns. How many field goals did they score? (Write an equation and label your variables)

2) Rachael belongs to a local gym. Rachael pays $35 per month and a one-time registration fee of $15. Write an equation. If she has been a member of this gym for 6 months, how much money has she spent overall for the gym?

3) Suppose you spend $30. 00 on snacks for a party 3) Suppose you spend $30.00 on snacks for a party. The dried shrimp cakes cost $3.00 per pound and the chocolate–covered mushroom stems cost $4.50 per pound. Write an equation that represents the different amounts (in pounds) of shrimp cakes, S, and mushroom stems, M, you could buy. b) If you buy 2 pounds of mushroom stems, how many pounds of shrimp cakes can you buy?
