Presentation transcript:

Who we are and what we do As advisors we review practices and activities relevant to the recruitment, retention, education and career development of our diverse student body. We work to bring our collective experiences to the table for meaningful dialogue, and access through our networks for impactful student opportunities.

Seeking inclusion in the curriculum and community and on the Council A model: Peer Mentor Program Promote improvement of academic success, persistence and successful graduation of students participating in the program Assist first-year and transfer students with their college transition by pairing them with a peer mentor who provides guidance and support throughout the mentee's first year. The peers: juniors and seniors Keys to success: Peer and faculty and staff collaboration Goal: early referralssupport retention/identify early support needs Responsibilities and Expectations of Mentors Commit to being a peer mentor for one year. Communicate with mentee throughout the summer. Attend the fall semester PMP Meet and Greet. Participate in one PMP group activity per semester. Comply with the College's community norms. Maintain at least biweekly contact with mentee throughout the school year. Serve as mentors to new students by demonstrating a personal interest in their adjustment to Cleveland State while recognizing and accepting the new student's individuality. Become familiar with new students' personal and academic interests as well as future educational and career goals. Provide students with academic survival information to help them cope with common academic adjustment problems encountered by new students. Serve as a leader and a role model for new students.
